text introducing cord ties
I am 14 years old. I started this business 5 years ago, at the age of 9. My younger brother sparked the inspiration for this as I wanted to do something special for him and my mum. I made a cord tie with the colours my mum loved, and made matching bracelets for my immediate family as well as my grandma and great-grandad. All of which surrounded my mum at the homebirth of my brother. Seeing the Midwife tie the cord tie around his umbilical cord and then looking around to see everyone with their around there wrists, motivated me to give that oppurtinity to other families.
I have recently moved states to the Whitsundays, and this new beginning encouraged me to completely re-design my website and branding. I have kept 1 of my original designs along with my cultural designs. But I have decided to bring out 3 new ranges; ‘Australian Flora and Fauna, “Crystals’ and ‘Surrounding Environment. I spent lots of time perfecting these designs as well as my new branding, till it was just right. I want to make the ability to connect with your family as welcoming and enjoyable as possible, as that is my overall goal with my business.
Why would you want to put an uncomfortable plastic clip on your precious newborn baby?
Your baby is not a bag of frozen peas!
Plastic cord clips are bulky and inconvenient for both the mother and the baby, and it disturbs treasured skin-to-skin moments with Mum or partner and baby. Plastic cord slips will also get caught in nappies and clothes. Cord ties offer a comfortable alternative that is gentle on the baby’s skin. My cord ties specifically are thin and soft with nothing that can irritate the baby’s skin or interrupt key bonding experiences between the family. Umbilical cord ties have been used for thousands of years and are still in common use throughout the world today.

Jo was wonderful support – both during the last trimester of my pregnancy and in the early postnatal period. Her extensive knowledge was such an asset. Jo gave me reflexology to help turn my baby who was posterior, as well as lovely massages – my body was so thankful after every treatment.
Deborah
Treatments with Jo helped me to cope with (and even improved) sever pain resulting from pelvic instability. I also had a wonderful delivery which was, I am sure, enhanced by the treatments I had received in the proceeding weeks.

It was so wonderful to have Jo there for me on my pregnancy journey. Jo was there from the beginning, providing treatment for me, while I was trying to conceive through to the birth of my baby and beyond. Jo spent much time with me throughout all the stages of pregnancy, particularly with helping to achieve a birth I was happy with and could be positive about!

My experience with Jo was just fantastic. I was feeling apprehensive and nervous about my babies impending birth. After seeing Jo I felt so much more positive and confident in my birthing ability. Jo was a huge support to me both ante and postnatally and I'm so grateful she was part of my birthing journey.

Jo is professional, her knowledge is very broad and thorough about baby reflexology, baby yoga, shiatsu, baby massage and a lot more. The Mumabuba environment is well organized yet baby and mum friendly, very relaxed and calm. Jo's knowledge and experience assure you that you and your baby are at the best place. I have been using reflexology since I learned about it at the babytouch workshop, it was especially great help when my baby was teething; she wasn't unsettled at that time at all. I am using the shiatsu technique I learned at the workshop with baby settling with great results

The most amazing gift Jo gave me was the ability to breastfeed my son without pain. She taught me new holding positions for him which helped his latching, and like magic - he fed without any trouble and my nipples healed within 2 days. He's 1 year old now and still breastfed. Thank you Jo!"
Deborah
I’ve been so impressed with Jo and her treatments that I have recommended her to several friends who are all now regular clients.

After successfully breastfeeding my first born, I automatically assumed it would be just as simple with my second. However I was wrong, and after two weeks I was still really struggling. I decided to seek help from a professional IBCLC in Jo, and she just happened to live right round the corner! Jo spent a lot of time with my daughter and I to figure out where the issue was and kept in close contact until we were 100% on the right track. For anyone who is struggling on their breastfeeding journey, please don’t hesitate to get some help from Jo! It will take a load off your shoulders and you will be feeding confidently and happily in no time.
Emma
I cannot believe it now a year since Therese experienced all the difficulties with feeding little Emma. You will be pleased to know that Emma is still fully breastfed. She celebrated her 1st birthday on 16 December. Therese is back at part time work but expresses at work and Emma loves Mum’s milk. I thought I would send off an email to say thanks once again for your assistance with Therese and little Emma.
Mimi - Grandma
I was so relieved to finally find somebody who understood why my breasts were so sore after 10 months of an ongoing painful breastfeeding journey that nobody else in the medical world could fathom! Jo was not only very knowledgeable about breastfeeding but also passionate about it and was very well read and up to date on the the latest research. She gave me a treatment which provided me with huge relief. I only wish I lived closer as I would be over there every week

I make the orders myself, after school or during the weekends. Though I always try my best to get them out as soon as I receive your order. Despite that, please allow 2 weeks to receive your cord tie, (allow a little more time during December and the beginning of January). I also recommend you place your order no later than 36 weeks (30 weeks for multiple babies) just in case your baby makes an early appearance.
There is no research to suggest that cord ties need to be sterilised, however just as you will probably want to wash any new clothes you get for your baby before she or he wears them, you may want to wash the cord tie in the same way and allow it to dry.
You may see instructions on the internet suggesting sterilisation by pouring boiling water over the cord tie and let it soak for a few minutes, then put it in a zip lock bag, and keep it in the freezer until you need it. However it’s worth noting that unless the bag and any other items that come in contact with the cord tie are sterile, then sterilisation cannot be acheived.

There is no need for a spare cord tie, however, if you would like to order an identical cord tie as a keepsake rather than washing the one you will be using, then please feel free to order an additional cord tie
Sometimes umbilical cords can leak a bit, but this will normally happen in the first few hours after birth and is more common when the cord is cut immediately after birth because there is still blood inside the cord.
Delayed cord clamping, which means waiting until most of your baby’s blood from the placenta has transferred back into your baby, has many health benefits for your baby and reduces the likelihood of blood leaking from the cord.
The job of the umbilical cord is to transfer blood, oxygen and nutrients to your baby while it’s inside your womb, it’s literally your baby’s lifeline. Once the cord has been cut it’s job is complete so over a period of typically 3-7 days the cord will dry up, shrivel and eventually fall off.
Sometimes the umbilical cord can get a bit smelly, this is normal and nothing to do with using a cord tie, it happens with the plastic clips too. You can just bathe it with some warm water to help reduce the smell.
Some mums have kept the dried up piece of umbilical cord still attached to the cord tie as a keepsake. If you don’t want to keep the piece of cord and would like to keep the cord tie, using a pair of sharp scissors, careful snip the cord close to the knot of the cord tie and pull the cord out from the other side. You can then wash the cord tie, let it dry and then wrap it around the keepsake card and pop it back in the envelope that comes with the cord tie. The keepsake card has a space for you to write your baby’s name and date of birth.
Some mums like to tie the cord tie to the mums bracelet as a sign of their bond and wrap both around the keepsake card.
Some mums like to continue to wear their bracelet for longer, whichever you would like.
